Campus Recreation

Campus Recreation strives to enhance campus life by offering a wide range of engaging programs and activities to encourage healthy lifestyles and maximize the participation and satisfaction of students and the Roanoke College community as a whole.

The pool located in Alumni Gym offers regular open swim hours for the campus community and hosts regular scuba diving academic classes as well as kayak roll clinics.  The pool is also utilized by various departments, athletic teams and student organizations for classes, practices and events.  A certified lifeguard is on-duty whenever the pool is open for use.

Club Sports

Club Sports are considered officially recognized student organizations by the College.  The clubs practice regularly and compete against other teams, colleges, and/or universities in their respective leagues and conferences.  Current clubs include Baseball, Bass Fishing, Cheer, Dance, Golf, Men's Lacrosse, Riding, Men's Rugby, Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer and Ultimate Frisbee.

Game Room

The Game Room is located on the lower level of the Colket Center.  You can shoot pool, play ping pong or the latest video games on your favorite gaming system including PlayStation4 and Xbox One!  Tournaments will be hosted during the year including billiards and ping pong as well as Madden, NHL, NBA2K and FIFA.

Group Fitness

Group Fitness is a great way to become more physically fit while exercising in a group environment.  A variety of classes are offered to appeal to the different interests of participants and includes Body Pump, Boot Camp, Insanity, Yoga and Zumba.  Classes are held at times that hope to be convenient for most students.  Current, students, faculty and staff may participate in Group Fitness.

Intramural Sports

About 600 students participate in Intramural Sports each year.  Intramurals are a great way to continue playing your favorite sports at the recreational level.  Sports offered include flag football, indoor soccer, volleyball, basketball, softball and team handball.  Men's, women's and co-ed leagues are offered for each sport with teams made up of friends, classmates, etc.  Students, faculty and staff are eligible to play; however, varsity athletes are not allowed to compete in the corresponding intramural sport during the same academic year.

Outdoor Adventures

Outdoor Adventures takes advantage of the College's geographic location to offer a unique outdoor experiential program.  OA runs numerous outdoor excursions during the year including hiking, backpacking, climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, skiing, whitewater rafting and hang gliding.  All trips are led by student guides certified in CPR/AED and Wilderness First Aid, though some activities require the additional expertise of professional instructors.  OA also offers Journey, a pre-orientation program for incoming freshmen.
